The Freshman baseball nine was defeated at New Haven on Saturday by the Yale freshmen by the score 11 to 4. The rain made clean playing impossible. In the first three innings Alexander was hit freely, Yale bunching hits and scoring ten runs. After the third inning Alexander settled down and Yale secured but one more run. Considering the condition of the field, the fielding of both teams was fairly steady. Dana batted well and was the only man who could hit Patton consistently.
The score: Two-base hits--Matcalf, Dana. Stolen bases--Chapin 4, Metcalf, Green, Slade, Carpenter, Fischel. Double play--Dana, Hamlen. Bases on balls--by Patton: Carpenter, Rockwell, Pierce (2); by Alexander: Chapin 2, Metcalf, Green 2. Struck out--by Patton: Carpenter 2; by Alexander: Metcalf, Patton, Chittenden, Slade 2. Time 2h. Umpire--Cunningham.
