NEW YORK, May 24.--The preliminary heats of the Intercollegiate Track Meet were run off at Berkeley Oval, New York, this afternoon. As is often the case, the relative strength of Harvard and Yale has greatly changed since the Dual Meet. The participation of other colleges today deprived Yale of more points than Harvard; so that the chances of winning the meet tomorrow are bright. Harvard qualified with at least one man in every event. In the low hurdles Willis and Converse won their heats; in the quarter mile Rust and Manson won their heats, Rust's time being 50 1-5 seconds. Robinson put the shot 43 ft. 4 in., and Boal threw the hammer 136 ft. 8 in. Boynton ran a fine race in the half-mile; but Behr was pocketed and spiked, thus failing to qualify.
