FRESHMAN ROWING.

Criticism of the Weld and Newell Freshmen.--Orders of the Crews.

The candidates for the Freshman crew have now been rowing for two months and while it is still too early to judge of their ability, some general criticisms can be made of the Freshmen rowing at both clubs. Compared with the Freshman crews of the last two years, they seem rather backward in development. Individually the men are large and active, but as yet they do not work together at all.

At the Weld the men have been provisionally graded into five crews and the two first crews are now rowing in shells. They are still troubled with the slides but keep their boats fairly steady. The five crews are rowing now in the following order:

1904 Weld--Stroke, Minturn; 7, Parmelee; 6, Thanisch; 5, Bleakie; 4, Lindsley; 3, Lloyd; 2, Hanford; bow, Adams.

Stroke, Macomber; 7, Skelley, 6, Sanger; 5, Dillingham; 4, Thayer; 3, Chadwick; 2, Pruyn; bow, Fairchild,

Stroke, Foster; 7, May; 6, Clapp; 5, Whitman; 4, Gignoux; 3, Burgess; 2, Harrison; bow, de Rham.

Stroke, Taft; 7, Kent; 6, Donald; 5, Greenough; 4, Cobb; 3, Acosta; 2, Winston; bow, Robinson.

Stroke, Durfee; 7, Hawes; 6, Higgins; 5, Burnham; 4, Ingalls; 3, Hall; 2, Dyer; bow, Kibbey.

The past week has shown much improvement in the Newell crews. The two first crews were put in shells yesterday, and all are gradually working together. As a whole, they have the usual fault of rushing their slides and hanging at the catch. The crews rowed yesterday in the following order:

1904 Newell--Stroke, Weldon; 7, Rainsford; 6, Peabody; 5, Robinson; 4, Davie; 3, Pierce; 2, Seabury; bow, Dunbar.

Stroke, Phillips; 7, Cruger; 6, H. Nickerson; 5, Bell; 4, Peck, 3, Grilk; 2, Dill; bow, Wilcox.

Stroke, Burr; 7, Harrison; 6, Scott; 5, Adler; 4, Durfee; 3, Bramwell; 2, Gardiner; bow, Bradley.

Stroke, Hunt; 7, Coburn; 6, Graves; 5, Holwill; 4, Oelrichs; 3, Crane; 2, Roosevelt; bow, Hull.
