The first annual convention of the Association of American Universities will meet at the University of Chicago today. The association, which is made up of the Universities of Chicago, California, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin; together with Columbia, Harvard, Yale, Clark, Cornell, Johns Hopkins, Princeton, Stanford and Catholic Universities, was formed last February for the purpose of "considering matters of common interest relating to graduate study." The association will hold a convention each year. These conventions are to be deliberative and not legislative, nor will the acts of the association be held to control the policy or line of action of any institution belonging to it.

The topics proposed for discussion at the convention today are "Migration," "Fellowships," "Subordinate Requirements for the Doctor's Degree," and "The Printing of Dissertations." Statements in writing on the topics to be discussed will be submitted to the association by the Federation of Graduate Clubs.

At the meeting last February the following officers were elected: President, the representative of Harvard University; vice-president, the representative of the University of California, secretary, the representative of the University of Chicago. Dean Briggs is Harvard's representative.
