The University hockey team will play Yale in New York to night, at the St. Nicholas Rink, under the auspices of the Harvard Yale and University clubs of New York City. No tick is of admission to the game have been sold, but those which were issued, with the exception of a few sent to Harvard and Yale, have been distributed among the members of the three clubs.
In the game tonight Yale will have over Harvard the advantages of a longer season of preliminary practice and of familiarity with the St. Nicholas Rink, where Yale played Brown, Princeton and Pennsylvania. During the Christmas vacation, the Yale team took a trip to Pittsburg and Philadelphia, playing five games with teams made up largely of experienced Canadian players. Though none of these games were won, valuable experience was gained in them. A comparison of the Harvard and Yale scores is favorable to Harvard, since Brown, which has been twice beaten by Harvard defeated Yale last Thursday by a sore of 1 to 0.
The candidates for the Harvard team were called out on December 11, and since that time have been practicing on the rink on Soldiers Field whenever there has been ice. Seven games have been played, and six of these were won.
Owing to the mild winter, there has been little good ice this season, and for the reason on many days of the practice season the Harvard team has not been able to use the rink. The men have nevertheless developed in a steady and satisfactory manner, and the team is now stronger than the one which played Yale last year. As individuals, the men are fast skaters, and have worked hard to perfect themselves in the details of their positions. As a team, they are capable of a hard defence, and a fast, though not always concerted attack.
The teams will line up as follows: Mr. J. W. Callendar will be unable to referee the game, and his place will be taken by Captain. Hayward, of the St. Nicholas Club hockey team.
