The football number of the Lampoon shows throughout a sense of what is proper and fiting for the occasion. A Yale game is emphatically a serious proposition; for this reason, no doubt, almost all humorous matter has been edited from the pages of the present issue. Exceptions have been made in favor of "The True Story of Sampson," which is undeniably funny, if rather long-winded; and of a caricature sketch, by far the best thing of its kind that has come out for a long time. The editorials are prosy and excited no false hopes. A great deal of dull poetry, together with the approach of the Yale game, accounts for the dearth of short jokes and stories. Of the illustrations, only the cover, "Back Numbers," and the already mentioned caricature are noteworthy.
