The Freshman football squad was divided into four elevens yesterday afternoon. After a rather severe preliminary practice the different teams were lined up against one another and short games were played. Team C and team D were very evenly matched, but the playing on both sides was loose and ragged, the backs and ends being especially weak. The practice was concluded by a game between teams A and B. The first team was superior in the line, and the backs were heavier and played more effectively together. The defensive work of the second team, particularly when forced to their goal line, was very strong and they repeatedly held the first team for downs within their five-yard line.
The practice as a whole was fairly encouraging. The men are rather light, and the candidates for quarter-back are unusually weak, but all the candidates show good spirit and are willing workers.
