The work of the Freshman squad yesterday was devoted entirely to perfecting the defense of the first eleven, and practicing the ends in getting down under punts. No regular practice game was played. The first lined up with the second and the latter were given the ball during the entire play. The ends and backs on the first worked well together and tackled their men repeatedly for losses. The linemen were coached by J. Lawrence '01, and played low and hard; but they showed a tendency to get off-side and in a regular game would have often been penalized.
The practice ended with a ten minute line-up against the University second eleven. The Freshmen were not given the ball, and were again placed entirely on the defensive. The second were unable to gain on end plays, but broke through the line repeatedly. The Freshman team lined up as follows:
Parker, r.e.; Oveson, r.t.; Chase, r.g.; Derby, c.; Bowditch, l.g.; Tingley, Brook, l.t.; Crocker, Gately, l.e.; Hurley, q.b.; Bunting, r.h.; Harrison, l.h.; Leather-bee, f.b.
