NEW HAVEN, October 21.--The celebration of the Yale Bicentennial began today. In the morning the Ives-Cheney Memorial Gateway was dedicated, and addresses were delivered in Battell Chapel on "Yale in its Relation to Law," and "Yale in its Relation to Medicine." In the afternoon President Hadley delivered the address of welcome to the guests of the University; and, among other speakers, President Eliot responded for "The Universities of the East."

At 2.30 the annual fall regatta was held on Lake Whitney over a course of five sixths of a mile. 1904 won the first heat, and 1905 won the second. The final was an easy victory for 1904. Time, 4 m. 29 2-5 s.

The parade started in the evening with about 6,000 men in line. The line was formed in three divisions, with fourteen sections, and the length of the route was about four miles.

Tomorrow morning several addresses will be given; and in the afternoon there will be a football game with a team of graduates. A performance will be given in the Hyperion of Professor Parker's Hora Novissima, and in the evening there takes place the student dramatic performance and singing on the campus.
