Freshman Football Practice.

The preliminary practice of the Freshman football squad was much longer than usual yesterday, and careful individual coaching was given to most of the members of the team. The work of the afternoon was as a result more spirited than it has been and some of the men showed considerable advance in the finer points of play. The ends especially were quicker in getting down under punts, and their tackling was more reliable.

A thirty minute half was played between teams A and B at the end of the practice. Team A had a slight advantage in weight and played better together, but the ball was kept about the middle of the field during almost the entire time, with little advantage on either side.

The position which seems at present the hardest to fill satisfactorily is quarterback. The candidates are light and inexperienced, and none of them seem able to get life into their play. The squad as a whole, however, is progressing rapidly and shows a steady development.
