Freshman Football.

The work of the Freshman football candidates is still of the most elementary nature. The squad, which is still smaller than that of last year, has been divided into four sections, according to weight, and R. A. Derby, F. F. de Rham, Le B. S. Willard and W. C. Matthews have been appointed temporary squad captains.

Yesterday the practice consisted in passing and falling on the ball, followed by a short run. After this the backs practiced kicking and catching for about half an hour. Owing to the short time the candidates have been out, it is impossible to form an opinion yet, but the material seems to be rather below the average of Freshman squads at this time of year. This is especially noticeable in the lack of heavy men of experience. No attempt has yet been made to form teams, but practice in breaking through and running down on kicks will be given in a day or two.
