The practice of the University nine yesterday was equally divided between batting and practicing the fine points which were lacking in the Holy Cross game. The work on the whole was list-less, but at several times brilliant plays were made. Reid and Coolidge batted well, but the rest of the men swung too hard and failed to place their hits.
In the latter part of the afternoon the team practiced fielding bunts, making double plays and catching men between bases. Stillman and Clark were weak on bunts and Kendall often left the base before the ball reached him. Coolidge and Fincke played steadily and at times brilliantly. The double play work was rather slow, the runners being caught only a few times.
