In preparation for the third interscholastic regatta which is to be held during the last week of May, crews have been rowing for nearly a month, and though improvement has been slow it has been none the less marked in blade work and inboard smoothness.
The schools represented are as follows: Rowing from the Union Boat Club--Hopkinson, Browne and Nichols, Chauncey Hall, Waltham High, Roxbury Latin and Newton High; from the B. A. A. house--Volkman's, Mechanic Arts, Cambridge High and Latin, Boston Latin, Stone's, Noble's and English High.
Of these the work of Glendon's crews at the B. A. A. has been the more satisfactory, though Hanlon has secured on the whole better material and bigger men. The schools now especially prominent are, at the B. A. A., Stone's and Mechanic Arts, at the Union, Hopkinson's and Waltham High. Hopkinson was especially fortunate in securing permission to row from the Weld Club with Donovan's coaching earlier in the spring.
The plan of using eight-oared shells has now been definitely given up, the crews rowing as before in four-oared barges.
