The tenth annual Harvard interscholastic tennis tournament was played last Saturday on Jarvis Field as far as the semi-finals. The number of entries was much larger than that of last year, and the playing as a rule was full of life. In the semi-finals, to take place this morning at 10 o'clock, P. Johnson of Newton High will play J. Seabury of Andover, and J. Wright of Hopkinson, will play J. Seabury of Andover, and J. Wright of Hopkinson, will play J. Williams of Andover. The winners of these two matches will meet in the finals this afternoon.
The best playing on Saturday was done by Wright of Hopkinson, who showed carelessness at times but played a very strong game, using a vicious under-hand stroke and lobbing with great precision when necessary. By far the most interesting match of the day, however, was the one between Williams and D. Brannon of St. Mark's. Williams won out by remarkable steadiness and clever placing. He has an unusually strong backhand stroke which he uses with great effect.
Andover has already won the tournament with a total of 12 points. Hopkinson is next with 9. Following is the present standing of the other schools: Newton High 8, St. Mark's 8, Cambridge High and Latin 1, Volkmann's 1, Roxbury Latin 1, Brown and Nichols 1.
