Yale debating has never been in such flourishing condition as during the past season; attendance at both the Union and the Sheffield Debating Society being fully twice as large as formerly. The junior debating clubs have held five debates at the University Club, which has proved a popular meeting place. The sophomore clubs have not had such a prosperous season, but the results in the interclass debate were satisfactory. The Law School club and the Divinity School have aroused strong interest. The most pressing need now is for a suitable building devoted exclusively to oratory and public speaking, which can accommodate the class societies and relieve the present overcrowding. The old system for choosing the Yale team for the Princeton debate has been practically abandoned. By the new plans the six men chosen at the trials will be divided into two opposing teams of three each. From these the final team will be chosen.
The senior class voted to wear caps and gowns on Sundays during the spring term. The plan is not in good working order yet as the senior class presented a very disorganized appearance on the first Sunday after vacation.
