Freshman Baseball.

Sixteen men were dropped from the Freshman baseball squad yesterday afternoon. The squad is still a very large one, however, and will be reduced by 10 or 12 men before out-door practice begins. The work in the cage, which has consisted, for the most part, in sliding bases and stopping grounders, has been reasonably encouraging. The weakest point in the team at present is first base, where there is a great scarcity of promising men who are physically qualified for the position.

Nothing definite in regard to the strength of the outfield can be determined until out-door work is started. The battery candidates have not been reduced as yet, but are working daily with the University batteries. They give signs of unusual promise and are undoubtedly the strongest part of the team.
