In a wretchedly played game, the University hockey team defeated the Massachusetts Institute of Technology yesterday afternoon by the score of 8 to 4. The indications of this game, and in fact of several recent games, are that the team has fallen off decidedly in effective playing. There has been little individual work and less team play. In yesterday's game, the best work was done by Walworth, for the opponents, who made all the goals for his-team. The University team was especially weak in the second half, when it not only allowed Technology to score two goals, but was also unable to make more than three goals against a team it defeated two weeks ago by the score of 10 to 1. The line-up was: Goodridge, goal; Russell, point; Vanderpool, coverpoint; Beardsell, Laverack, Hoxie, Hardy, forwards. M. I. T.--Speer, goal; Baldwin, point; Chase, coverpoint; Berr, Walworth, Smith, Edgworth, forwards.
The Seniors will play their first game with the University team this afternoon at 3.30 on Soldiers Field. Owing to the fact that one of the players will go to New York to see the Yale-Brown game, and to arrange a definite date with Yale, the University team will have a new line up as follows: -- A. M. Goodridge, goal; Vanderpool, point; Hardy, coverpoint; Beardsell, F. J. Goodridge, Hoxie, Laverack, forwards. The Senior line-up will be: Scott, goal; Sullivan, point; Farrington, coverpoint; Ward, George, Drinkwater, Parker, forwards.
