A debate was held last evening at the Prospect Union between representatives of the Republican and the Democratic Clubs, but no decision was given as to the winner. The question was: "Resolved, That the policy of the McKinley Administration in regard to the Philippines should be supported." E. E. Sargent IL, and E. H. Letchworth '02 upheld the affirmative, M. T. Hall 1L, and P. E. Fitzpatrick '02 supported the negative. The speaking on both sides was convincing and to the point. The Republicans briefly reviewed the administration's policy in the Philippines, and tried to show that the Filipinos are both incapable and undesirous of self government. The Democrats endeavored to show the weakness of the Philadelphia Platform, and quoted from speeches of Beveridge and Roosevelt which condemned colonization as unconstitutional. Much time was given to rebuttal.
