In the first round of the chess tournament the following ten men qualified for the semi-finals: A. R. Campbell 1L., F. G. Hopkins '00, A. E. Landry '01, C. T. Rice '01, F. E. Thayer '01, E. R. Perry '03, J. P. Hogan '03, P. Adams '03, E. H. Abbott, Jr., '03, and E. B. Barnes '03. For the semi-final round the men have been divided into two sections, the first two in each to contest in the final round. Only one man is to be selected for the intercollegiate tournament, since Southard is still eligible to play this year.

A match has been arranged with the Boston Young Men's Christian Union for Saturday, Nov. 11, in which twenty men will play on a side.
