Princeton Letter.

Two preliminary debates have been held in the American Whig and the Cliosophic Literary Societies to decide upon the four men to represent each Hall in the Inter-Hall debate to be held Friday, Nov. 17. From these men a team of six will be chosen for the debate with Harvard. The Spencer Trask prize of fifty dollars will be given to the man doing the best work in these preliminary debates.

The first round of the chess tournament for the selection of Princeton's team in the intercollegiate tournament has been completed and the men who will play in the second round are: Scott '02; Weston '99, Hunt '02, Henley '02, Pilgram '02, Ely '02, and Nevins '03.

A large tract of land known as the Stockton Place has been leased by the Golf Association, and will be fitted up for use by members of the club. The old Stockton residence will be made into a club-house. Chester Griswold, Jr., '99, has been elected captain of the University Golf Team for the season of 1900-1901, to succeed John Stuart '00.

The senior class has elected the following officers: President, Owsley Brown, III.; vice-president, Herbart Wheeler, Pa.; secretary, J. Lionberger Davis, Me.; master of ceremonies, Wm. H. Edwards, N. Y.; presentation orator, Chas. H. Stewart, Ind.; historian, Chas. Yeoman, N. J.; '76 prize debater, John B. Keley, D. C.; ivy orator, J. A. Jones, N. J.; class poet, B. G. Huntingdon, Ohio; class orator, D. L. Chambers, D. C.; class prophet, Elroy Curtis, D. C.; Washington's Birthday orator, Edward S. Prieth, N. J.

The exterior work on Stafford Little Hall, a new dormitory adjoining Blair Hall, has been completed, and the building will be ready for occupation at the semi-annual room drawings in February. The erection of Dodge Memorial Hall, which, with Murry Hall, will be the home of the Philadelphia Society, the religious organization of the university, has been begun and considerable progress has been made. The building is of Brown stone, designed in the English collegiate Gothic style of the fifteenth century and will cost $50,000. It will be ready for use in May.

At a mass meeting of students, Robert K. Gailey, Seminary '96, who is working among the colleges in China, was selected as the representative of the university in the foreign field. One thousand dollars will be raised by the undergraduates for his support.

The musical organizations will leave Princeton on December 18 for their Christmas trip. The schedule is as follows: Dec. 18, Wilmington; Dec. 19, Baltimore; Dec. 20, Washington; Dec. 21, Pittsburg; Dec. 23, Erie. Five concerts will be given in the vicinity of Princeton before the clubs leave. DAILY PRINCETONIAN.
