Freshman Football Practice.

The first practice of the candidates for the Freshman football team was held yesterday afternoon, when one hundred and forty-five men came out to try for team places. These were first instructed in tackling the dummy and in falling on the ball. Then under the direction of J. E. N. Shaw, 2L, and J. L. Knox, 3L, the linesmen were drilled in breaking through, and the backs in punting.

Although many of the candidates showed extreme rawness, there were still some evidences of good form.

During the remainder of the week the practice will be conducted with squads. Before the men are sifted over, as they probably will be next week, there will be drill in rushing and tackling; for it is essential that no mistakes shall be made and that only the most efficient men shall be retained.
