The work of the Freshman crews at the two boat clubs has been considerably improved during the past week. This is especially noticeable at the Newell. Since Glendon took charge of the coaching more men have come out, and those who were rowing have a considerable advance towards learning the stroke. C. S. Harding '00 has charge of the squad at the Newell, and the Freshmen at the Weld are working under charge of Hugh Bancroft 2L. A first crew, composed of men who have rowed before, has been picked at the Weld, made up as follows: Stroke, C. B. Roberts; 7, J. S. Bent; 6, L. Warner; 5, E. George; 4, D. Roberts; 3, P. Adams; 2, F. G. Jackson; bow, J. L. Peabody. The other men at the Weld will be graded this week into second, third and fourth crews. The process of grading the men at the Newell has not begun yet. So many more Freshmen are rowing at the Weld than at the Newell, that arrangements have been made to transfer a number of them to the smaller club. The transfer of membership will be without expense and will take place immediately.
