Charles C. H. Wright, instructor in French at Harvard, has been appointed president of La Ligue Litteraire.

William A. Bancroft '78 has been appointed a brigadier-general in the United States Volunteer Army.

R. D. Wrenn '95 has joined the First Regiment United States Volunteer Cavalry.

The law library in Austin Hall now numbers 44,000 volumes, having been nearly doubled in the last ten years.

At a recent meeting of the New York Yacht Club it was decided to give up the annual regatta on account of the war.

The Yale Mission has selected a site and will soon issue a call for money to erect a building suitable for the purposes of the Mission.

There will be no football practice in kicking and punting this spring, as intended. Footballs will be lent to several men for practice during the summer.

The will of the late Jacob Wendell of New York provides the funds for another Harvard scholarship, the proceeds of which are to go to the best students, whether they be rich ro poor.

Coach Courtney, of Cornell, has chosen the following men to compose this year's freshman crew: Stroke, English; 7, Hartley; 6, Logan; 5, Ball; 4, Cross; 3, King; 2, Vanderhoof; bow, Thomas.

W. B. Fetterman, of the University of Pennsylvania, holder of the intercollegiate record in the mile walk, will compete in the English championship games on July 2.

A branch of the Norwich and Worcester Railroad was to have been put through the property of the Harvard University Boat Club at New London, but owing to the efforts of the crew management such action has been postponed until July. The cutting of the railroad through the grounds at Red Top will probably necessitate a change of quarters, should the crew return to New London next year.

A competition of fours from the Weld Boat Club will be held next Tuesday, the winning crew to represent the club in the Metropolitan Rowing Association regatta on June 17. There will also be a trial in junior single sculls to select a competitor for the same regatta. The club will give prizes to the four and single thus selected. The annual race of the senior crew with the Boston Athletic Association crew will be held next Wednesday.

The alumnae of Radcliffe, especially the class of '95, is, with the approval of the board of directors, making systematic efforts to raise $50,000, which has been estimated as the cost of the site and construction of the proposed new dormitory. Although the site has not been chosen, it has been decided to have the building afford board and lodging for not more than twenty-five students at a cost not to exceed nine dollars a week, and as much less as will suffice to pay running expenses.
