From a Harvard standpoint it is interesting to compare the Metropolitan Regattas of the last three years. Two years ago one Weld crew, a junior eight, competed successfully. Last year three crews entered, two eights and a four oar, and counting the single sculls, the Weld captured five out of seven events. This year, the number of eights was increased to four, a four oared crew also entered, and, with the singles, seven of the eight races were won.
The first thing one notices in this short retrospect is the uniform success of the Weld in all its contests, success which bears witness not only to good coaching but to really strong material. The second, is the fourfold expansion of rowing interest during the past two years, and not merely in interest but in success as well. This combination is certainly encouraging. There seems no lack of developing material to draw from, and that this material is rapidly developing, the past rowing season goes to prove. There were many old Weld men on the class crews, and three members of the present 'Varsity boat took part in last year's Metropolitan Regatta. Thus we not only congratulate the Weld men for their success, but look forward with interest to the make-up of future class and 'Varsity crews.
