The form shown by the 'Varsity in the Pennsylvania game on Saturday was, with the exception of the batting, very encouraging. But for one or two cases of infield misjudgments, which should be censured, the nine played a brilliant, errorless game. The infield especially started in on the aggressive in a way that did much to discourage the Pennsylvania batters.
The credit of the victory, however, lies chiefly with Hayes and Reid; Hayes for his pitching and fielding, Reid for his catching and batting. Hayes had absolute control over the ball with very good curves and speed. He gave no bases on balls and struck nine men out. Though the nine played with an encouraging amount of dash in the field, this was offset by its weak batting-the team seemed to refuse all chance of offensive play. Of the four hits made by Harvard, two were scratch hits. While the team has with one or two exceptions done well in the field, to finish the season well the nine must take the offensive at bat, and make runs without relying upon the opposing team's errors.
