A new set of rules and regulations for the Harvard Dining Association has been determined upon and will be fully drawn up and ready for distribution at the beginning of the next academic year. In many cases the old rules have been allowed to stand or have been revised and altered on minor points. Several important changes and additions have also been made.
The new rule for filling vacancies in the hall provides that all those remaining on the waiting list of a previous year, who have renewed their applications for membership prior to September 15, shall be first assigned to vacancies and after them, all those who have merely filed applications before September 15. This will allow those who have been on the waiting list for a year or more, provided they renew their applications to have first chance to fill vacancies over Freshmen and other new men.
All those men who are not admitted to the hall at the drawings on September 15 will be assigned to the waiting list in the following order; first, those who were on the waiting list of the previous year and who renewed their applications before September 15 in the order in which they stood on that list; second, all those who have merely filed applications before September 15 in the order determined by lot on such list. All persons now in the University wishing to join the association, and, at the same time, to be well up on next year's waiting list, should therefore put their names on this year's list. The list closes on June 1.
The names of students admitted at the beginning of the academic year will be posted in the auditor's office and no other notice of admission will be sent at this time. Those men who do not claim their places within a week after the posting of the list, will be dropped and charged on the term bill at the regular rates for that week.
The rule in regard to temporary absences, put into force on April 12, will be continued. It is that any member of the association, intending to be absent for a week or more, may obtain a half rate reduction for that period by giving notice to the auditor before his absence begins.
Hereafter, the rebate of ten cents per meal for absence on Sundays shall be for not more than five consecutive meals beginning with dinner on Saturdays. The old rule allowed rebate for six meals but was found unjust to those who remained at Memorial on Sundays in that the accounts showed that there was no saving by such Sunday absence and that the expense fell on those who were not absent.
A new system of re-engaging board for the next year is proposed. Cards will be left on the tables after June 1, which members who desire to re-engage board will sign and leave at the Auditor's office before Commencement Day. Rules for re-engaging board, in which there are two new clauses, will be printed on the backs of these cards.
