To justify fully such encouragement as scrub baseball has received during the last two seasons, well supported class series are necessary, since the main idea in making such a point of scrub baseball, is to arouse more general interest in the game, get more men out for their class teams, and generally raise the standard of play. Inevitably a scrub series such as the one just completed, puts off the date when candidates for the class teams can be called out, and by bringing the interclass games in close proximity to the final examinations, may deter a few men who might otherwise offer themselves as candidates for their class teams, from trying.
If experience shows that putting a premium on scrub baseball is at the expense of the class nines, such procedure can hardly be recommended for the future, but we believe that there is so much in favor of continuing scrub baseball on the basis instituted this year, that any doubt as to its future advisability would be extremely unfortunate. Therefore it is to be hoped that the class teams will be well supported, and that the training which so many men have already taken advantage of, may work good results in raising the standard of play.
