The men chosen last night to represent Harvard in the coming Princeton debate, are first of all and deservedly to be congratulated. They have passed through a trial ordeal, which, although necessary and right in the interest of the debate, might, in the preliminary steps it entailed, well have exerted a discouraging influence.

As for the unsuccessful candidates who spoke last evening, the least we can do is to thank them heartily for their work in helping to develop the question, and make a new system of trial what the judges are agreed it has proved, a success.

But one point remains. Last night's debate was of a character which might well have interested a large audience, and the audience present was unstisfactorily small. Everyone must realize of what importance a full house is to any trial, and no system can be fully justified without it.
