In accordance with the suggestion offered in the communication in another column, a blue-book has been placed in the CRIMSON office with a petition for Ninety-eight men who wish to protest against the rule counting the new courses Philosophy 1a and 1b as only half courses for Seniors.

According to the announcement for next year in the new Elective Pamphlet, "courses 1a and 1b are both intended to cover ground that is useful as a preparation for the studies of the more advanced courses." From this it would seem that it is the intention of the Department to make these courses more introductory than they have been in the past and for that reason to make it more advantageous to Sophomores and Juniors to take them than to Seniors. Thus far, however, they have always been regarded as valuable courses in themselves, and, as a result, many men have been waiting to take them in their senior year. Whether this new restriction on Seniors is to be adopted ultimately or not, we think that it should at least be put off for another year for the sake of members of the present Junior Class who have looked forward to taking the courses as usual, if for no other reason.

Every Ninety-eight man, therefore, who considers that the new rule is unfair and prejudicial to his interests should make it a point to add his name to the petition which has been started, for it is only by some concerted and fairly general action that the Faculty and the Department of Philosophy are likely to be much influenced by any objections coming from the undergraduates.
