The letter from the Class Day Committee urging Seniors to conform to their agreement with the Corporation in regard to the conduct of the Tree exercises must have the attention and the respect of every member of the class. It should be borne in mind that the Corporation is strongly opposed to the exercises as they have been held in former years. It was thought in February that the old quadrangle back of Hollis, where the exercises are held, had been outgrown, and that the wearing of football clothes and the formation of combinations in the scrimmage were undesirable features of the affair. In fact the Corporation has been rather opposed to the Tree exercises in any form, and has only allowed them to be held about the old tree again on condition that the objectionable features of the scrimmage be wholly done away with. Thus it is perfectly clear that the future of one of Harvard's oldest and dearest traditions depends on the conduct of the Seniors at the Tree exercises next Thursday. If the wishes of the Corporation are observed as regards the forming of combinations of men in the scrimmage and the wearing of objectionable clothes, the exercises can doubtless be kept up in future years in their present modified form; otherwise it would not be surprising to see them prohibited altogether next year, or else changed beyond recognition.
