YALE LETTER.

NEW HAVEN, June 10, 1897.

The principal topic of interest in the university at present is the baseball outlook. Yale's victory over Princeton last Saturday was due so largely to chance that success for the rest of the series does not seem to be assured. Moreover, Murphy will not play with the team for the remainder of the season, and Greenway will be unable to pitch in the coming game at Princeton. It seems highly probable therefore that the Princeton series will be decided by a game in New York.

The baseball season for the Freshman team closed with the game with Princeton 1900 last Saturday. The team played thirteen games, of which it won six and lost seven. The games in which the team was defeated were: Twice by Princeton 1900, once by Harvard 1900, and by Andover, Lawrenceville, Dean Academy, and the Edgewood A. A. team.

The university crew left for New London on June 2, where they will remain until the 19th. On that date they will sail to Poughkeepsie in the yacht "Princess," owned by Mrs. Charles H. Harkness. They will be taken to Stuyvesant Place, two mile above Poughkeepsie. The following were taken with the crew: G. Langford '97S., W. E. S. Griswold '99, F. T. Allen 1900, P. H. Bailey '97, J. C. Greenway 1900, H. G. Campbell '97, Payne Whitney '98, D. F. Rogers '98, P. D. Mills '97S., and G. T. Marsh '98; also L. Greene '99, coxswain; J. S. Wheelwright '97 and G. Parker '98, managers, and Mr. Robert J. Cook '76, coach.

Directly after the Mott Haven games E. C. Perkins '98 was unanimously elected captain of the track team for next year, while after the bicycle meet Laurance Tweedy '99 was chosen captain of the bicycle team.
