Although the University Nine has won the last two games played, it is an undeniable fact that for the last two weeks or more the men have played poor baseball, and that they must improve a great deal in order to win the important games scheduled for this week and next. It is quite possible that this poor showing is due to overwork. Since April 19 the Nine has played three games a week, only one of which has been at Cambridge; and, in addition to all this travelling there has been regular practice nearly every day. There is no doubt that the men are trying hard to do their best. But considering that the team began the season by playing fairly well, and with all except one of last year's team back, the present slump was not expected to such an extent, and the way in which it is regareed by undergraduates shows that the causes of it are not understood.
As far as the actual playing goes, the Nine must be left to itself. But its members may feel that their work is appreciated by the rest of the undergraduates, and the latter can do much to help the progress of the team by showing interest in the practice and by good hearty cheering at the games.
