OBITUARY.

Darwin Erastus Ware '52.

Hon. Darwin E. Ware, of the class of '52, died at his home in Boston yesterday morning after a short illness. He was born in Salem in 1831 and prepared for Harvard in school there. After graduation he entered the Law School, where he stood very high in his class.

He then studied law in the office of C. T. and T. H. Russell and was admitted to the bar in 1856. He was successful in his profession and had charge of many important trusts. In 1863 he was member of the State House of Representative and in 1864 and in 1865 a State senator. From 1866-74 he was a member of the Massachusetts Harbor Commission.

Mr. Ware was one of the organizers of the New England Tariff Beform League and of the Massachusetts Tariff Reform Club; and he was for a time president of the Civil Service Reform Association.

When he was thirty-five years old he was appointed a member of the Board of Overseers of Harvard University and remained in that position for many years.
