"Fool's Gold" will be given its first regular performance this evening before an audience of Pi Eta graduates in the new theatre on Winthrop square. A full dress rehearsal was held last evening and, although there were the usual waits and mistakes, the piece should run smoothly tonight.

The play is a musical comedy, savoring more of the legitimate light opera, perhaps, than of the musical burlesque. The most noteworthy feature of "Fool's Gold" is, perhaps, its music, which is bright and catchy from first to last. Mr. James Gilbert, who has had entire charge of the production, has devoted a great deal of attention to the chorus work this year, and some of the dances and marches are very effective.

The cast of characters is as follows: Duke de Grabo, a rich miser of Hebraic decent, T. L. Holmes '99 Count Giocoso of Pisa, a jovial gentleman in financial difficulties, G. S. T. Newell, Jr., L. S.

Gioya, his daughter, a fair and winsome maid, E. M. Waterhouse '98.

Passata, his elderly daughter, not so fair, but a willing candidate in the matrimonial field, A. B. Cunningham '97.

Amorello, the pride of the court, Vivian Burnett '98.

Prinkums, a page, a villainous bundle of vanities, W. S. Parker '99.

Maria, maid-of-all-work to the Giocoso family, W. D. Walker '97.

Blustro, a blood-thirsty brigand from the mountains, Frederick Barry '97.

Astralgo, a knave-of-all-trades and an adept at all work lightly labor some, W. C. Burton '99.

Showman, G. N. Roberts '97.

Master of Revels, E. D. Mulford '97.

There will be a chorus of thirty, consisting of peasants, courtiers and dancers.

The first public performance, and the only one in Cambridge, will be given on Monday evening at the Pi Eta theatre. The other performances are: Thursday, April 8, Lynn Theatre; Friday, April 9, Academy of Music, Fall River; Saturday, April 10, Bray Hall, Newton Centre; and Monday, April 12, Bijou Opera House, Boston.
