The third annual whist match with Yale, held on Saturday, resulted in a victory for the Harvard team in what proved to be a close contest. The Yale players improved very much at the finish and succeeded in cutting down the big lead which Harvard had won in the first two-thirds of the match, to three tricks, making it the closest match yet played with Yale.

Comparison of the gains and losses of the various pairs shows their relative standing to be:

Harvard-Byrd and Endicott, 2 1-2 plus; Heilig and Sprage, 1 1-2 plus; Booth and Morrill, 1 minus.

Yale-Beecher and D. P. Cameron 1-2 minus; Cook and Sherwood, 1 minus; Bryant and J. S. Cameron, 1 1-2 minus.

At the end of the first round of 24 deals, the score stood: Harvard, 16; Yale 11. In the second round Harvard gained 14 tricks and Yale 3; in the third, Harvard gained 10 tricks and Yale 23, making the total score 40 to 37, in favor of Harvard.
