The fourth annual competition of the Intercollegiate Fencing Association which was held at the New York Racquet and Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon and evening was won by Harvard for the fourth consecutive time. The other contestants were Columbia and the United States Naval academy. Each college was represented by three men, the winning team to hold the challenge trophy presented by the Racquet and Tennis Club for one year. The Harvard representatives were A. F. Riggs '98, A. G. Thacher '97 and M. De Diaz '98.
There were 27 bouts on the programme. When the evening matches began Columbia was leading. The contestants in the first evening match were Lawson of Columbia and De Diaz of Harvard. The latter won, tying the score. In the following bout Riggs, Harvard, defeated Kirby, Columbia, and Harvard took the lead.
The individual scores of the Harvard men were: A. F. Riggs '98 won 2, lost 1; A. G. Thacher '97 won 2, lost 1; M. De Diaz '98 won 2, lost 0.
