On Saturday afternoon the finals and the semi-finals of the singles in the Newton tournament were played off and resulted in a well earned victory for A. Codman '96. The matches between D. F. Davis 1900 and Hollings, and L. E. Ware '99 and Codman were first-class exhibitions of sharp but steady tennis. Davis beat Hollings by a score of 6-3, 5-6, 6-4, and Codman beat Ware, 6-2, 2-6, 8-6.
The finals were played in the evening, and Codman played a wonderful game, displaying by far the best tennis of the tournament. His strokes were hard and accurately placed. The score was 10-12, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-0.
