Colonel Thomas Wentworth Higginson, at whose suggestion the old Harvard Union was organized, has consented to address the present Union early in the next half-year on some subject connected with speaking. As Colonel Higginson has not yet fully regained his health, he does not think it safe to speak in the evening nor in a large hall. He will therefore speak in the afternoon, very likely on a Wednesday afternoon so as to give the members of English 6 and English 30 a chance to be present, and probably in Sever 11. Admission to Col. Higginson's talk must unfortunately be limited to members of the University and Radcliffe College.
Ex-President Andrew D. White of Cornell will speak at the annual meeting of the Union to be held in Sanders Theatre on Friday evening, March 5, on "Evolution vs. Revolution in Politics." Dr. White has prepared his lecture with especial reference to the influence recent events in American political life should have on young men. Members of the University will therefore be given the first opportunity to obtain tickets and not until their wants have been supplied will tickets be given out for those not connected with the University.
In addition to these two addresses it is hoped that other distinguished speakers will be found to address the Union on subjects connected with speaking and debating.
The debates for the second half-year will be for the most part against other societies. A debate has practically been arranged with the Prospect Union, while arrangements are perfecting for two debates with the Forum in addition to the annual interclub debate.
