There are still about sixteen men rowing on the Freshman crew squad. They row every afternoon in the tank and went into strict training on Tuesday. R. M. Townsend '96 is coaching and has full charge of the squad.
After rowing, the men pull weights in the Gymnasium and then take a run on the board track outdoors. The following is an individual criticism of the first crew:
Stroke-Byrd. Is apt to catch with bent arms, and hurries forward at the beginning of the recover. His blade work is poor.
7-Higginson. Has slight tendency to use the slide before getting body on, and shortens on the finish.
6-Tilton. Stroke is jerky and uneven. Swings with shoulders, slides a little and then uses shoulders again. Leg drive and body swing are both cut up.
5-Heath. Apt to let body swing forward too soon and weakens on the finish.
4-Gray and Swain.
Gray. Work is stiff and labored. Has not a continuous motion and is jerky.
Swain. Does not sit up well to the work and hangs at the full reach.
3-Biddle. Does not keep oar buried keep his pressure on at the finish. Also is apt to hurry body forward on the recovery.
2-Brown. Hurries with slide. Also hangs and rows out at the finish.
Bow-Saltonstall. Is stiff and wooden in his movements.
The order of the second crew is as follows: Stroke, Boardman; 7, Clark; 6, Hunt; 5, Lee; 4, Porter; 3, Glidden; bow, S. Forbes.
