Last night the Freshman Debating Club met for the semi-annual election of officers. Before proceeding to the balloting, however, several matters of business were discussed. A plan for a series of competitive debates was proposed, the debates to be four in number and to take place at every third meeting of the club. In these debates the competitors were to be dropped till there should be four left for the final meeting and all of these were to receive medals.
The treasurer's report was read, showing a surplus of $68.25 in the treasury.
The following officers were elected:
President, G. O. Smith.
Vice-president, J. A. Richards.
Secretary, T. H. Whitney.
Treasurer, W. M. Chadbourne.
Executive committee to consist of the officers, ex officio, and J. E. McCloskey.
The subject for the debate next week is: "Resolved, That the United States senators should be elected by popular vote." The principal disputants will be: Affirmative, G. A. Morison, R. W. Foster; negative, F. W. Buxton, A. Jay, Jr.
