To the Editors of the Crimson:
The following plans have been suggested and will undoubtedly be brought up at the class meeting Tuesday: (1) modified "Tree" scrimmage, (2) shower of flowers from the "Tree." (3) rush around four trees back of University.
In the first plan, there would be a wreath around the old tree from four to seven feet from the ground; men would have to wear ordinary clothes and the seats would be limited to about 3400. The main objections that have been raised to this plan are: (1) the old space is too small both for satisfying the demand for tickets and for accommodating the contestants; (2) if the large majority of the class participate there will be too much of a crush; (3) on account of this crush the success of the scheme depends absolutely on the conduct of the fellows; (4) it will be difficult to prevent maneuvering for a favorable place while the cheering is going on.
The second plan is to have flowers thrown from a platform concealed in the old tree. The objections that have been offered are: (1) "We are not a female seminary;" (2) the whole idea is strained and unnatural; (3) "it is the reverse of scrabbling pennies for muckers."
The third scheme is to rush for flowers around four trees back of University. This would be virtually four scrimmages similar to Plan One but with less than one hundred men in each. It would do away with excessive pressure, maneuvering for positions, and limited seats. The objections to this plan are: (1) it would do away with the old tree; (2) it would make the beautiful space behind University unsightly.
The class are further reminded that a final vote will be taken on the two days' scheme. It seems to us that this scheme hangs absolutely on whether or not we have the Senior Dance, for we feel that we can not fill the two days' programme without the dance.
We urge the class to take the trouble to consider these schemes carefully, and to compare their respective merits before the meeting, as it will be hard to form an opinion from what may be said that night.
CLASS DAY COMMITTEE.
