The success of the Fishermen's Reading Room, conducted by the Sailor Mission branch of the Christian Association, marks another step in the progress of Harvard's practical philanthropy. That the undertaking has been a thorough success the large daily attendance of seafaring men shows. But that it might be made more attractive to sailors and so be made still more successful, the experience of its promoters shows; and they have decided to put on file in the room a number of periodicals. To the payment of the subscription prices for these periodicals students are asked to contribute. We hope the request will meet the ready and generous response which it deserves.
The choice of periodicals to be placed on file seems at first a rather strange one, but it was made by a committee after noticing carefully what papers and magazines the men who use the room cared for and could appreciate. The magazines chosen are intended to interest and attract men to the room as well as to instruct.
