This morning is the beginning of the term of service of a new member of the board of preachers, Rev. W. H. P. Faunce, D. D., of New York, who will take Professor Harris's place at Appleton Chapel and carry on the services through November 27.
Dr. Faunce is a man of no less distinction than his able predecessor. He is perhaps the leading Baptist clergyman in the east, and is minister of a large church in New York City. In addition to his standing in the church, Dr. Faunce's reputation for broad culture and practical executive ability has been such that he has several times been considered as a likely choice for president of Brown University. This is Dr. Faunce's first term as University preacher, and Dr. Peabody deserves warm thanks for having secured the services of a man of such distinction.
