HARVARD LOSES TENNIS.

NEW HAVEN, CONN., Oct. 8, 1897.

The finals in the intercollegiate tennis tournament were held this morning and were won by S. G. Thompson of Princeton who defeated J. D. Forbes of Harvard. A five set match was necessary to decide the championship. Forbes took the first set after a hard struggle, but easily succumbed in the next two. He took a strong brace in the fourth set and the last two sets were hotly contested, the result being in doubt until the last point was played.

The summary follows:

Thompson, Princeton, beat Forbes, Harvard, 6-8, 6-1, 6-3, 5-7, 7-5.

This was the sixteenth annual intercollegiate tournment and was played for a new cup the old intercollegiate cup having come to Harvard for good last year.
