The increasing importance of the intercollegiate fencing tournament and the change in the requirements for eligibility to the college teams, make it advisable that the Athletic Committee grant the petition for the appointment of a fencing master at the Gymnasium. Formerly only members of the Fencing Club were eligible for places on the Harvard team. But this year, since the Columbia, Annapolis and other teams will be chosen from the whole body of students, the Harvard Fencing Club will throw competition for the team open to all members of the University.

As an article in yesterday's CRIMSON pointed out, the two Harvard fencing teams this year will have to be chosen largely from new material. It is necessary then to use every possible means to develop the new material. Probably the best way, certainly the fairest way, of choosing and training a team which is to represent Harvard as a 'Varsity team is to make it possible for all men in the University to try for the team and give them efficient coaching.
