Lectures in Semitic.

The Semites are a well-defined group of peoples inhabiting Western Asia, with a history extending from the remotest past to the present day. They have done an important work in civilization, giving to the world the alphabet, monotheism, the Bible, the Koran, and the three religious-Judaism, Christianity and Islam. They are therefore of permanent interest to students of language, literature, history, religion, and art. The four informal lectures announced for this week and the next are intended to give a general view of the language and the literature, especially the latter, of four of the chief members of the Semitic family. These lectures are open to the public. The first will be given in Sever 5 at 7.30 p. m. today.
