A communication appears in another column in refutation of the editorial printed in yesterday morning's CRIMSON. It was not intended as an attack upon the 'Varsity management but merely showed that the class crews instead of being aided are actually being oppressed by the 'Varsity. Our remarks were based upon statements of class managers and captains; and, even in the light of the communication, we see no reason for altering them.

Last year the 'Varsity charged each class crew $50 for rent of the boat house and $30 as entrance fee to the class race. This season the 'Varsity, in its desire to aid the financially distressed classes, has abolished the entrance fee, and has charged $80 for expenses. A careful comparison of the totals will reveal, at once, the extent of the 'Varsity's generosity.

We regret that there was any ambiguity in our statement about the presentation of cups to the members of the winning crew. The point we wished to make was simply that the football and baseball managements gave cups without any charge whatsoever. We supposed that no one would think for a moment that the generous 'Varsity Crew management would charge $120 for entrance fees and not give cups to the winning eight.

If it so happens that the Ninety-six Crew is free from debt, it must be remembered that the class has had exceptional good fortune. The profits of their Freshman football game with Yale were given to the crew, and they have been spared expense in many other ways.

Lastly, if the 'Varsity crew requires so large a sum as $5000 for its support, we are unable to see why they cannot afford to pay $400 of that amount for the combined expenses of the class crews.
