PRINCETON, N. J., April 1.
The opinion, which has been universally prevalent for a number of years, as to the need of a new gymnasium here was voiced in a recent special gymnasium number of the Princetonian. Letters from the 'varsity captains and athletic trainers and from others also competent to judge expressed a strong conviction that the present gymnasium was entirely inadequate for the needs of the student body, and that, in order to gain substantial benefit to athletics and the general health of the college, there was an urgent need of a new building very much larger and better equipped. The advantages, from a hygeinic and athletic standpoint, of such a building would be immense. It would give every man in college ample opportunity to take systematic exercise. It would increase the strength and endurance of the football, baseball and track athletic teams, and would wonderfully help to develop the latent athletic talent in college. The new spirit at Princeton which her coming celebration is calling up can show itself no better than in filling for the institution this long felt want.

Mr. Joseph Jefferson, the well-known actor, gave a talk on "Dramatic Discourse," Monday afternoon, under the auspices of the Cliosophic Society. The lecture was intensely interesting and very entertaining with his humor. This lecture was the last of a series of special lectures during the past two weeks which have served, by their interesting character and present importance, to attract the whole university.
The baseball team came out on the field for the first time last Saturday in the game with Rutgers. This first showing of the team was very gratifying, especially in the catching department where the greatest weakness was supposed to be. The consolidated has been organized with Wheeler '97, as captain, and every afternoon will play a short practice game with the 'varsity.
