We notice with pleasure the appointment of Mr. Leo Wiener as instructor in the Slavic Languages. It seems singular that as yet the Russian language has scarcely been taught at all in any American institution of learning, although Russia is the largest and one of the most important of European nations. It is gratifying that Harvard has taken the initiative in this direction. The appointment will doubtless lead to the establishment of a regular professorship in the slavic languages.
