Only forty men have joined the Weld Boat Club this spring as against over one hundred last year. The fees received so far amount to barely enough to run the house a month. If more men do not join, the fee of $5-which, considering the number and cost of the boats is merely nominal-will have to be raised to ten dollars next year or the house will have to be closed.
There are lockers and hot water bathing accommodations for over four hundred men, and there are shells, barges canoes enough to seat one hundred at one time.
The trouble seems to be that some men who believe they will not row very often think they will row those few times without paying any fees. Some men are able to elude the vigilance of the janitor and his assistant, neither of whom know all the members by sight. No member has a right to take out friends who are not members.
It is hoped that the number of members will be speedily increased. Seniors of any department of the University may join for the spring rowing season for three dollars.
